LanguAge… Ages gone by

As a student of Arts with a post grad in Literature (among other technical degrees) I spend a lot  of time musing about life, history and language. In my opinion, language is the only bridge  to unite people world over, or perhaps the absence of which or commonality can erase the gaps between various cultures, each rich in their on way. How wonderful would it be, if we could understand every language spoken in this world. If it is a means of communication, I would expect it to evolve into a mind-wave communication, something like telepathy where one could just pass the message to a person. This will enable us to get across to scores of people with little effort. As with all progress, there is one thing that we will have to be eliminate – the possibility or capability of the evolved super mind to read other people’s thoughts and also the danger of others reading our mind. It can be done.
It needs to be a simple system -
One can put a thought in an other person’s mind, provided they are allowed access!
No one is permitted to read another’s mind at all, no matter what!

This done, spoken language would be easily grasped and understood. And the need to learn different languages is minimized. This is an evolved mind we are talking about. Again, If it is going to evolve in order to be able to put a thought in a persons mind in a way that is understood by that human, we are still talking about a greater amount of learning. If that learning can be got then it can be used in spoken language as well. If we project a thought in a million languages, it is as good as learning to speak them.

Let’s see now…
Train the mind to communicate in pictures perhaps. Then the evolved mind could send picture signals to the other mind and well, since we say pictures speak louder than words etc, and also it is known that most of the retention of what we read is by forming pictures in our mind. So communication will be much easier. What a alien world that would be! Gosh, so weird. Imagine having antennas to send signals in all directions :D

Interesting if it should happen.. Getting back to where I began this post – being an Indian we are well accustomed to the fact that there are so many languages in India alone that it would impossible to learn all those main stream languages and their dialects. I, for one, know to speak a few languages and vaguely understand a few others, by knowing a few words. So much of literature in India has been written since ages unknown in languages that I have no clue about. I do understand a little Sanskrit but not enough to comprehend an entire play or story. So, I wondered about how I am missing out on so much literature. There is still hope though. A good many translations are available for those who seek.
Reading an ANCIENT Sanskrit text, translated by an American Professor early last century.More about it in a few days.

God makes me wonder – how little the world has changed yet how much.

We try to find the roots, we traverse down the ages, turning back the wheels of time to learn; knowing fully well that we have to rush back to where we belong, the Now – forward and away from where it all began.

Yet by knowing where we began, we know how rich we always were and how much more we need to get ahead. Past is but a reminder for the future. n’est-ce pas?
Au Revoir!
